One To One - Paper to Block

A review of
Perfect Blocks in Minutes

Confession time: I don't always have the patience for paper-piecing, especially when it comes to assembling the sections of a block, with all those crinkly, hard-to-pin paper edges.

In her debut book, Anita Grossman Solomon introduced an amazing way to paper-piece dozens of classic blocks using just one foundation piece and no pinning. I was so excited by this new technique, I immediately pieced forty-nine monkey wrench blocks!

Now Anita's back with a fresh new collection, Perfect Blocks in Minutes: the Make It Simpler Way. Check it out - I think you'll be smitten.

JUST ONE PIECE Some of Anita's blocks are complex-looking, like the six-spoked Whirling Hexagon or the multi-angled Celebration block.

Whether they use eight patches or fifty-six, however, each is pieced on just one sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. (I second Anita's recommendation that you use translucent paper for this technique.)

It's easy to make all the copies you need using the book's full-sized patterns.

NO PINS - NO KIDDING!

Patches are cut using templates. (Unlike other paper-piecing techniques, Anita's does not use oversized patches, so there's no trimming and less fabric waste.)

The patches are lightly glued in place with a fabric glue stick, then stitched and pressed. The amazing part comes next: fold the paper on pre-printed dotted lines and stitch. When you open up the block, all the sections will match perfectly!

It's easy to get addicted to the accuracy of Perfect Blocks, and with sixty to choose from, you're bound to find inspiration for your next project.
