Quilter's Review Sampler August 30, 2004 Piecing It All Together My copy of the October issue of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine finally arrived, and there it is, on page 70 -- Jan Magee's review of my book, Picking A Sewing Machine You'll Love. Whoopee! Yes, she liked it! And no, I can't fit into any of my hats any more. This being-an-author thing is pretty neat! Except now Charlie's after me to finish my next book. *Sigh* If only I had minions... But back to reality. This week in Quilter's Review I've got a mini-review of a great little product, one I wish I'd thought of myself. Quilter's Q. & A. belongs beside every quilter's sewing machine. And for your reading pleasure, Sophie reviews Hawaiian Applique and The Quilter's Home: Fall, either one of which could entice you into some exciting quilting as the season starts to change. I'll be back in your inbox on September 13th. 'Til then, quilt up a storm! ![]() P.S. Need to make an easy, charming gift? My new Charming Houses wall quilt pattern is a great way to assemble a quaint village scene using fusible web applique and 6" charms from your stash. You'll love the look -- see it here -- and making it couldn't be more fun! PRODUCT REVIEW - A Quick Look - Monday, August 30, 2004 I Wish I'd Thought Of This One!
Linda Zokan of Thistledown & Co. has published Quilter's Q. & A., a quick-reference, spiral-bound book of the most frequently asked questions a quilter might have. It keeps the facts you need to make a quilt close at hand, including how to make half-square triangles, how to set triangles, how to miter borders, and how to finish your binding. Actually, the book is a 5" by 7" set of laminated reference cards with lots of good information, including how to make Hurry-Up 9-patch blocks. The best part is of Quilter's Q. & A. is the way it helps with common quilting math. Techniques that require math have blanks that you fill in to guide you through the calculations you need. You can write in the blanks with a dry-erase pen so you have those magic numbers right at hand while you do your project. When you no longer need the numbers, wipe them away for a clean slate for your next project. When I first saw this product, I immediately wished I'd thought of it first -- it's that good. The modest price of $11.95 will keep important formulas and quick techniques right at your fingertips. Questions? Comments? You can discuss this article with other Quilter's Review readers!
